STATEMENT REGARDING SAN BENITO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

PLACING ADVISORY MEASURE ON NOVEMBER BALLOT

July 23, 2024 – Hollister, Calif. – This week, the San Benito County Board of Supervisors (County) called a special meeting to approve the placement of an advisory measure on the November ballot regarding its Joint Powers Authority (JPA) proposal with Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital. The County did not inform the San Benito Health Care District (District) staff or Board of Directors of the proposed measure in advance of the special meeting. The District already considered the County’s JPA proposal during a lengthy public process and determined it did not meet many of the criteria articulated by the District Board during its extensive search to find a potential transaction partner. The County’s measure is advisory and is not binding on the District. At its regularly-scheduled Board meeting this Thursday, the District will consider placing its own proposal on the November Ballot regarding the lease with option to purchase the District assets.
